Hiking in Oberjoch in the Allgäu
Take a deep breath and experience a mountain landscape like no other. The 6-seater chairlift will take you to fantastic hiking areas around our local Iseler mountain and allows easy access to idyllic tours in the Allgäu Alps and the Tannheim Valley in Tyrol, Austria.
Visitors with a head for heights and a thirst for adventure will love the Salewa fixed rope route which takes you to the summit of Iseler, 1.876 metres above sea level. Local routes or trails
‘Kanzel’ circular route:
Duration: approx. 1 hour, Oberjoch – ‘Kanzel’ route – Hol Schwande – Oberjoch
Iseler panoramic trail:
Duration: approx. 1.5 hours, Oberjoch – Iseler lift – Holzerweg in the Schratzer Wald – down the tarmac road – Ochsenalpe – Hole Schwande – Oberjoch
Ornach panoramic trail:
Duration: approx. ¾ hour, Oberjoch – Alpe Kematsried – panoramic trail to Alpenhotel – Ifenblick – Oberjoch
Moor circular route:
Duration: approx. ¾ hour, Oberjoch – village parking area – main road underpass – small moor path towards Unterjoch – footpath beside the main road to large moor path (moor trail) – Moorhütte – Oberjoch

Border circular route:
Duration: approx. 2-3 hours, Oberjoch – towards Grenzwies lift – upper moor – customs office – Alpsteigtobel – Rehbach – Unterjoch – Untere Schwande – Oberjoch
Alternative: Customs office branch – (historische Salzfahrerstraße) via district of Staig – Rehbach – Unterjoch – Untere Schwande – Oberjoch
Ifenblick – Alte Jochstraße:
Duration: approx. 2-3 hours, Oberjoch – Alpenhotel – Ifenblick – direction Hirschalpe – down the tarmac road – past the climbing park – cross Jochpaßstraße – Alte Jochstraße – Oberjoch
Ornach – Hirschalpe:
Duration: approx. 3 hours, Oberjoch – panoramic trail – Ornach – descent to Hirschalpe – back via tarmac road – Ifenblick – Alpenhotel – Oberjoch (caution, descent from Ornach to Hirschalpe, slippery when wet)
Ornach – Unterjoch:
Duration: approx. 3 hours, Oberjoch – panoramic trail – Ornach – descent towards Unterjoch (path only) – Spießer lift – old road to Oberjoch
Hut-to-hut trekking tour:
Duration: approx. 2 hours, Oberjoch – Untere Ochsenalpe – Iseler Platzhütte – through the Iselerkar to the Wiedhaghütte – descent via Gundalpe – Oberjoch
More challenging mountain walks around Oberjoch
Ridge walk via Kühgundrücken:
Duration: approx. 4-5 hours, Oberjoch – Iseler chairlift – Iseler peak – Kühgundrücken – Grenzwies lift mountain station – front Wiedhaghütte – Gundhütte – Oberjoch
Oberjoch – Schattwald:
Duration: approx. 3-4 hours, Oberjoch – Iseler chairlift – Iseler peak – via Kühgundrücken or directly from Iseler to Wannenjochlift and to Schattwald – as an alternative, walk via the Stuibenalpe to Schattwald. From there, take the bus to Oberjoch. (The descents of the Wannenjoch lift and Iserer lift are mutually recognised.)
Oberjoch – Zipfelsalpe:
Duration: approx. 3-4 hours, Oberjoch – Iseler chairlift – Iseler peak – descent to Zipfelsalpe – Hinterstein. From there take the bus to Oberjoch
Alternative: On foot via Bärenweg – Vaterlandsweg – Bad Oberdorf – Wildbachtobelweg – Oberjoch
Oberjoch – Palmweg:
Duration: approx. 3 hours, Oberjoch – Iseler lift – Iselerplatzhütte – Palmweg – Bad Oberdorf – return by bus, or via Wildbachtobel, or via Alte Jochstraße to Oberjoch
Alternative: Via Ochsenalpe directly to Palmweg
Oberjoch – Wertacher Hörnle:
Duration: approx. 5 hours, Oberjoch – Ornach – towards Hirschalpe – zum Spießer peak – Wertacher Hörnle – descent via Buchelalpe – Unterjoch – Oberjoch
Oberjoch – Zinken (Sorgschrofen):
Duration: approx. 4-5 hours, Oberjoch – towards Unterjoch – Untere Schwande – Hotzen – Unterjoch Steineberg – via Zehrerhöfe to Zinken – same way back or: via Alpsteigtobel – customs office – alte Jochpaßstraße – Oberjoch
